Ritualistic Statue
Patan, the ancient capital of Malla king located inside the kathmandu valley is famous for making finest copper and bronze metal statue from centuries .The traditional lost-wax method are applied to make the Hindu and Buddhist iconographical sculpture with the Newari imaginatively of Buddhism and Hinduism in Nepal. This is a popular traditional cottage industry of Patan.

First of all The shape is moulded in wax, and then cast in copper or bronze. The rough casting is then cleaned, carved and afterwards polished, and usually given a matt antique finish. In some cases the figures are left, as they are to give its antique shape, some are partly or wholly gold plated.

Finally the face is painted with powdered gold leaf and the features painted with gold. At last the base is attached. Gold plating may be partial or may cover the whole statue. The gold plating on the best quality statues is heavier and sometimes covers a wide area, and the finishing is better, but the difference may not be noticeable without close inspection. Sculpture is produced in bronze and copper. Bronze statues can be cheaper than the copper statues but the detail and finish are not as copper . Most of the family member of Sakya clan in Patan are involved for making statue.

All the family member take responsibility in the processes of moulding, carving, gold paintings and then they are brought in the shops or in the market. Our Statue and ethnic metal objects are exclusively made for us in Patan.

The cost of our statues and ethnic items is based upon the level of detail and fine carving. Costs for two versions of the same statue can differ. This is due to the level of its carving, the amount of gold used in painting it and the nature of the precious or semi-precious stones fixed into the statue to decorate it.
