"Nepal observes World Tourism Day; world’s longest trekking route unveiled"

Nepal observed 32nd World Tourism Day organizing various tourism promotional activities with the theme “linking cultures 2011” across the country on Tuesday.
Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with other tourism related associations observed the World Tourism Day in the capital.
On the occasion, organizers also launched The Himalaya Trail which is the longest and highest walking trails in the world amidst a special function at NTB today.
Widening beneath the world’s highest peaks and visiting some of the most remote communities on earth, it passes through lush green valleys, arid high plateaus and incredible landscapes, said that organizers.
Similarly, brochures, maps and websites related to tourism were also launched on the same occasion.
Speaking at the function, Tourism Secretary Dr Ganesh Raj Joshi said the government is working to find tourism possibilities destination in some 17 areas in the country.
Similarly, the government is also working to expand second international airport in Pokhara.
The process to buy new jet plane is also on the cards, said Joshi adding that if the process goes smoothly, new jet will be brought within this year.
Prachanda Man Shrestha, CEO of NTB also said that various ethnic cultures and traditions as well as cultural heritages are the main attraction of the country which is one of the main attractions to attract outer world.
He also said that Nepal has been moving impressively in the development of tourism but it is also not enough yet.
The government should announce “decade campaign” along with policy reforms for the development of tourism in the country, he added.
Nepal has been celebrating World Tourism Day since 1980 in September 27.
