Langtang Region Trek Langtang  Valley "The living earth"
Langtang National park was established in 1976 by the then His Majesty's Government of Nepal to conserve the unique flora and fauna of the region. It has an area of 1710 Sq. km. and extends over parts of Nuwakot, Rasuwa, and Sindhupalchok districts in the southern mountainous terrain of the Nepal-China (Tibet) border. In 1998, and area of 420 sq. km. in and around the park was declared a buffer zone.
The Langtang Trek, while offering many of the benefits of the Helambu Trek, also gives you the opportunity to get right in amongst the Himalayan peaks and to hike through remote and relatively unpopulated areas. If you want real adventure then the Langtang and Helambu treks can be linked by high altitude passes, either via the Gosainkunda lakes or across the Ganja-La at 5106m.
Langtang area is toward the north of the Kathmandu Valley. The scenery here is spectacular, and the trek more adventurous as the area is visited by fewer tourists. To the west of Langtang is Ganesh Himal with a range of 6,000 to 7,000 meters. The main ethnic groups living here are Sherpas and Tamangs. The forests in the region have temperate and sub-alpine vegetation. Wildlife includes migratory birds, deer monkeys, Himalayan Thars and Pikas. The best time for trekking in the Langtang region is spring and autumn.
